In R. v. Arora (Ont CA, 2025) the Ontario Court of Appeal explains what an 'allocution' is:
[16] ... At the sentencing hearing, in conformity with s. 726 of the Criminal Code, the appellant was given an opportunity to speak, which he did. During his allocution, the appellant expressed remorse for his actions and for the harm he caused to the victims. ...
